When I approached Waterway Lodges to organise our company Christmas function, I never expected it to be such an outstanding success.

The accommodation was first class, the views were unbeatable and the cuisine was divine. We were given the royal treatment the minute we arrived and the level of service could not be faulted during our 3 day stay.

Where in the world can you go kayaking in the morning, surfing and helicopter ride before lunch, jet boat ride and waterski in the afternoon followed by a relaxing cruise around the waterways while sipping wine. And that was just on the Saturday!

I can guarantee with Roy and Gray as your hosts, you'll never have a dull moment.

Our weekend at the waterways lodge was awesome. The hospitality was excellent and we were really made to feel at home – although the food is never that good at home! Roy and Gray are fantastic hosts and kept us entertained the whole time.

I recently spent 3 absolutely brilliant days at the lodge in Pauanui with my family. Hard to know where to start, but I'll have a go.

Accommodation - this was first class - truly 5 star quality. It had everything you could ever want, indoor and out door dining, superb views of the water from almost every angle, excellent bedrooms plus all the accessories you'd ever want. The thing I liked best - being able to dive into the water straight from the terraced garden.

Catering - we took the hosted option which was a real treat. We had great food and plenty of it and unlike self catering - we didn't have to spend any time preparing or cleaning up afterwards. The 2 hosts were great company, there when you wanted them, unobtrusive when you wanted privacy.

Activities - literally there's everything you could want to do - water skiing in the lagoon/harbour, jet boating through the mangrove tributaries, helicopter rides from the property, trips in the 50 foot boat, scuba diving, mountain bikes, kayaks, sailing skiff, plus surf beaches within 5 minutes drive, hillside walks. No wonder we ate so much!!

Ease - being just a couple of hours from Auckland it made it an easy and enjoyable trip. Local visitor attractions such as Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach are only short car/boat rides away.

All in all, our stay at Pauanui will be hard to beat, so we'll probably not try - we'll simply go back again!!
